I didn’t set out to build frameworks, host a podcast, or stand on stages talking about resilience and healing.
I set out to survive.
What I learned along the way, through childhood trauma, emotional exhaustion, food struggles, burnout, and rebuilding, is that most people aren’t failing at life.
They’re depleted.
And when pain goes unacknowledged, it doesn’t disappear, it shows up as habits.
That realization became the foundation for everything I do today.
My Work at a Glance
I’m a speaker, bestselling author, podcast host, and creator of the Delay the Binge™ framework, grounded in my original mindset philosophy, The Plus One Theory™.
Through my work, I help people who know what they should do,
but feel stuck repeating the same patterns,
learn how to pause with purpose, reconnect with themselves, and move forward one small, meaningful step at a time.
Not through shame.
Not through willpower.
But through understanding.
The Plus One Theory™: Where It All Began
The Plus One Theory™ was born long before I had words for it.
As a teenager navigating neglect and hardship, I learned something simple but life-changing:
when everything feels overwhelming, you don’t fix your whole life, you take one more step.
That step might be:
- choosing not to quit today
- asking for help
- telling the truth
- or simply showing up when it would be easier to disappear
That mindset, finishing stronger than you started, became the lens through which I raised my children, built businesses, healed relationships, and rebuilt myself.
The Plus One Theory™ remains the foundation of my work.
Delay the Binge™: The Pause That Changes Everything
Over time, as I listened to more stories, including my own, I realized something deeper:
People don’t struggle because they lack discipline.
They struggle because they’re exhausted and reacting to pain they haven’t had space to understand.
That’s where Delay the Binge™ was born.
Delay the Binge™ isn’t just about food.
It’s about:
- overworking
- over-pleasing
- over-functioning
- numbing with control, busyness, or perfection
At its core, Delay the Binge™ teaches the Purposeful Pause,
the moment between urge and action where real change begins.
That pause is the Plus One.
Why This Work Is Personal
At my heaviest, I was carrying over 140 extra pounds, not because I lacked discipline, but because I was carrying unaddressed pain.
My body didn’t change until I understood what the pain was asking for.
That experience reshaped my relationship with food, my body, and myself, and it continues to inform how I speak, write, and connect with others today.
This work isn’t theoretical.
It’s lived.
The Delay the Binge™ Podcast
I host the Delay the Binge™ Podcast, a space for honest conversations about the patterns we repeat and the pain beneath them.
Some episodes are teaching.
Some are storytelling.
Some invite listeners into the conversation, not to be fixed or judged, but to be seen.
The goal is simple:
help people feel less alone and more empowered, one pause at a time.
Speaking, Writing, and Community
I speak to organizations, conferences, and communities about:
- resilience and recovery
- quiet depletion and burnout
- identity beyond habits
- finishing stronger than you started
I’m also the bestselling author of From the Piney Woods (written under the pen name PJ Hamilton), where I share stories of hardship, kindness, and survival, the moments that shaped who I am and how I see the world.
Across every platform, my message is the same:
Your past does not define you.
It prepares you.
Why I Do This
I believe healing happens when people are met with:
- compassion instead of correction
- curiosity instead of judgment
- and permission to slow down long enough to listen to themselves
You are not broken.
You are becoming.
And sometimes, all it takes is one purposeful pause.
